![]() However, Skull Devil sees this and whips Cole away with her tail into the side of a mountain which causes the grenades to explode, killing him. Skull Devil soon catches up to the group, but Earl Cole stays to sacrifice himself by blowing himself and Skull Devil up with grenades strapped to him. Skull Devil injures and subdues Kong before he pursues the survivors, who are running towards the waiting boat just as dawn approaches. She heads quickly to Kong, who crushes Packard with his fist and then begins to fight against her while James Conrad and the others escape. Really. The Skull Devil is said to be responsible for slaughtering Kong's species and his parents in the past, making her the most terrifying and feared creature on Skull Island.Īfter Skull Devil was awakened due to seismic explosives being dropped onto Skull Island along with the rest of her kind and Kong was incapacitated by Preston Packard, she let her presence be known by emerging out from the water. Her interactions with Rodrigo never failed to bring a smile to my face. Funny and blunt armed with a dry sense of humour and a cool superpower, she’s a great nemesis. She is also a very good character and I really love her spirit. Then, there’s Bibi, Rodrigo’s nemesis, aka the thief he’s been trying to catch. The exploration of familial relationships and accepting someone as they are and loving them nonetheless is done so beautifully in this story and it absolutely made my day reading it. ![]() On top of that, there’s his relationship with his sister who he absolutely admires and his grandma, who hasn’t spoken to him since he revealed he was trans. ![]() He’s also sarcastic as hell and absolutely funny. He’s just someone who’s trying his best to do the right thing. What I loved most about this story was without a doubt, Rodrigo. ![]() Is he able to do it though, is the question. He’s just an up and coming superhero with only one bad guy under his belt and he wants to stop this thief from robbing people in clubs. The thoughts are my own and in no way biased.*Īrch Nemesis is the story of Rodrigo and his quest to become a better superhero than the one he already is. *ARC received in exchange for an honest review. But honestly, it's amazing how well all the characters are fleshed-out, given this is like 12k words long? Which brings me to another point: one of my favourite parts of this story was the relationship between Rodrigo and his grandma. He's this perfect blend of (unintentionally) cute & snarky and he just wants to be a proper superhero, okay. There are rich parties, clubs, bad neighborhoods, and super-powers but most importantly - the overwhelming feeling of warmth (the metaphorical kind but since it's set in Brazil, I'm assuming also the literal one). This is a short novella about a superhero with super-strength, his very much super sidekick that's a dog, and a Robin Hood-style villain who can freeze time.
